Join our marine biologist for a guided stroll around the island. Or you can go on a snorkel safari straight from the boat. You could even dive down into the ocean bottom in our semi-sub. Board the air-conditioned coach in Cairns and go south through rainforest mountains and fields of sugar cane. Pass by the landmark Walsh’s Pyramid, the tallest freestanding natural pyramid in the world. The journey to the tropical islands where your adventure awaits is certainly full of stunning scenery!

Located 45 minutes south of Cairns, Deeral is the perfect starting point for a relaxing trip on the Turtle Islander along the Mulgrave River. Sit back and relax in air-conditioned luxury while keeping an eye out for crocodiles via the expansive windows. Or you can also head outside to the decks’ covered areas for a closer look. The Frankland Islands are a short distance away, after all, it is only 10 kilometres from the river’s mouth.

The Frankland Islands are a national park and also a shelter for wildlife. You may go snorkelling just off the shores of the white sand beaches on beautiful Normanby Island. Bordered by rock pools and healthy fringing reefs, this unspoiled island will certainly amaze you. Spend approximately four hours here while you unwind and take it easy, away from the bustle.

So how does your Frankland Islands day trip look?

Your day trip will include guided snorkelling from the beach, complete with equipment as well as instruction. Snorkelling in the western reefs of the island from the comfort of the boat is also included in our popular adventure snorkel tour. Your trip price also includes a buffet-style lunch, as well as breakfast and afternoon tea. After lunch, you can explore the island with our Master Reef guide and marine scientist to learn about the abundant marine life. Also, you can learn about the flora and fauna that can be found in the island’s rocky pools and lush rainforest.   • 6:55 am – Pickup from Cairns City Hotel
  • 8:15 am – Check-in at Deeral
  • 8:30 am – Depart to Normanby Island (part of the Frankland Islands Group)
  • The Schedule can be different each day, so the crew will let you know onboard what the days plan is. Activities include Snorkelling, Island Walks, Kayaking, Paddleboarding, Guided Snorkelling Tours and Island Walks, as well as Semi-Submersible Tours.
  • 4:00 pm – 4:30 pm – Return to Deeral
  • 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm – Return to Cairns

Frankland Islands important information for scuba divers

Please make sure you understand the scuba diving laws.

Queensland, Australia has some of the strictest scuba diving rules in the world but also the safest scuba diving record.

We are regulated by the Queensland Government Code of Practice and comply with all regulations, including medical – as is the law.

To avoid disappointment on your day of travel, we recommend you complete our dive medical questionnaire before booking. As some medical conditions, age and/or medications may prevent you from scuba diving. It is always our mission to provide our passengers with the very best Great Barrier Reef experience.

Flying after Scuba Diving

For a single no decompression scuba dive, you should not fly or go to altitude for at least 18 hours after a scuba dive.  For multiple dives, you should not fly for 24 hours after your last dive.

If Skydiving or Hot Air Ballooning you must wait 24 hours after your dive. We certainly recommend waiting a minimum of 24 hours whenever possible
